There’s something for everyone to love at this year’s Ardmore Oktoberfest and Family Fun Festival on October 10. The fall family and Oktoberfest celebration takes place from 2–8 p.m. on Cricket Avenue in Ardmore. Presented by The Ardmore Initiative, McCloskey’s Tavern and John Henry’s Pub, this fall festival offers German food, Oktoberfest beers, live music and popular kids’ activities, such as face painting and a moonbounce. The O’Fenders will be providing live music from 2–5 p.m., followed by the James D. Oompah Orchestra, which will take the stage from 5–8 p.m. Enjoy an Oktoberfest celebration the right way—with German food, beer and live music in Ardmore! Photo credit: Nina Lea Photography

How to network within your own neighborhood

Just like social networking can strengthen a company, networking — both online and in person — can strengthen the people around you. There’s some truth to the saying “it takes a village” and, in modern times, that village is typically your neighborhood. It’s more than borrowing a cup of sugar or hiring a babysitter, neighborhood networking promotes healthy relationships, encourages safe social situations and provides services and advice to other families in need of some help.

shelterThe Narberth Havurah is hosting a breakfast at the 63rd St homeless shelter this Saturday am, and they are super light this month on food donations due to Spring Break. If you are around and want to donate something healthy, fresh and yummy to bring to Phyllis Hurwitz on Friday night between 5-8pm OR super early Sat. am, between 7-7:30 am, please follow the link below to see what is needed or what you think they may need to add. There are about 25 residents to feed who often like seconds  Most of the food is prepared in advance and just re-heated at the shelter. They can cook there, but it’s not ideal. THANKS so much in advance to this amazing community from The Narberth Havurah! It really does take a village.

Divided like their community, Lower Merion commissioners voted after a five-hour discussion Wednesday night to approve Dranoff Properties’ redevelopment plan for Ardmore’s Cricket Avenue parking lot. If the committee vote, 10-3 with one abstention, is made final at the board’s regular meeting April 16, it will mark the most concrete step in a decade toward a project to revitalize the downtown.
