The Penn Wynne Library will re-open on Sunday, March 20, 2016, with a Grand Re-opening celebration and events for the public from 1 to 4 p.m.
Events will include the Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting at 1 p.m. At 1:30, there will be crafts (“Make Your Own Penn Wynne Library Bookmark”), a photo booth, and tours given by Library Board members. There will also be Story Time at 2 p.m. and again at 3 p.m., with special appearances by the Penn Wynne Elementary Penguin.
The Penn Wynne Library is located at 130 Overbrook Parkway, Wynnewood, PA 19096. Along with the Ardmore Library, it closed in January 2015. They were the third and fourth of the Lower Merion Library System’s six branches to undergo expansions and renovations as part of a major, multiyear capital project. Ludington Library in Bryn Mawr re-opened in 2012 after expansion and upgrades, and the Bala Cynwyd Library did so in 2013. (The Gladwyne Library is currently closed for remodeling and plans are underway to modernize the Belmont Hills Library.)
The Penn Wynne Library was renovated from top to bottom at a cost of $3.1 million, and features a large multi-purpose room that is handicapped accessible. The room will be natural gathering space for community meetings, library events, book clubs, and more.
The expansion allows for more tables and chairs, more public computer workstations, larger restrooms with diaper changing stations, new programming space for children, better book and DVD return space that will be open all day, dedicated handicapped parking in front of the library, hands-free technology, and an electric-eye front door. It also features a new young adult seating area, a new entrance with skylights, lots of natural light throughout the building, glass-fronted seating all around the perimeter of the library, improved shelving and display space, a new roof, fresh paint and carpet throughout, and a better work space for staff.
Normal hours of operation for the Penn Wynne Library are: Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.; and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
