Sept 17th – Touch a Truck Fundraiser for Penn Wynne Library

This event takes place in the township lot directly behind the library. Please note that this lot will be closed from Saturday evening until the conclusion of this event.

*Kids can explore police vehicles, a fire truck, a small excavator, and MORE! There will also be raffle tickets for sale and an ice cream truck with sweet treats for sale–proceeds go to the library.

Entry is $5 per child, with a $10 max total for families (though of course, anything you’d like to give above that is very much appreciated.)

Cash only.

The library will be open for restroom use only. There will be no library business conducted during this event.This program is being presented by the Penn Wynne Library Board.

Five years ago the Conservancy teamed up with Friends of Linwood Park to document the animals and plants that call Linwood Park home during its first BioBlitz.

Join us as we take a new census five years later. We will be hosting three different experts to help us document all the Birds, Bugs, and Botanicals in Linwood Park.

At noon we will come together for a celebration to compare 2017’s results with 2012’s!

Program Schedule:

9:00 A.M.: Birds with Gregg Gorton

10:00 A.M.: Butterflies with Mary Poste

11:00 A.M.: Botanicals with Karen Snetselaar

12:00 P.M.: Celebration lunch comparing results from 2012 and 2017

Anne Krulikowski, Assistant Professor of History at West Chester University, will explore the storied history and development of suburban country clubs in the Philadelphia area. Dr. Krulikowski is a historian of material culture. Her past research has focused on the Colonial Revival, the American city and suburb, and the architecture of vacations.

These 2-hour workshop will give you an overview of mindfulness and how it could potentially improve your health, happiness and quality of life as you reduce stress. For nearly two decades the Penn Program has taught mindfulness-based techniques to thousands of people as a way to:

◾improve mood and energy

◾increase focus and mental clarity

◾manage difficult situations and emotions

◾enhance communication

◾increase enjoyment and appreciation of life

Mindfulness techniques cultivate steadiness, health and wholeness even during the most difficult moments. With training, you can learn to connect with your inner resources in a simple and satisfying way.

Facilitator:These workshops will be facilitated by Mara Wai, M.Ed. Ms. Wai is the Associate Director of the Penn Program for Mindfulness at the University of Pennsylvania Health System and has taught mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques since 2012.

The 27th Annual Harriton Farmstead Fair

The 27th Annual Harriton Farmstead Fair is scheduled for Saturday, September 23th, 10am to 4pm (rain or shine). This major event in Lower Merion Township features crafts, antiques, sheep herding, pony rides, historic house tours, childrens’ games, muskets and soldiers, blacksmiths, stone carvers, cabinetmakers, spinners, skep [beehive] weavers, Bluegrass music, falconry and other birds of prey, and much more.  The Fair also features the Harriton Attic Treasures Booth, which is the best flea market on the Main Line, the Harriton Farm stand featuring flowers and organic produce (some of which is from the Harriton garden).   Lapps Country Market will be roasting chickens and ribs for lunch.  The historic 1704 house will be open for tours during the day.   Don’t miss the day!

On Saturday, September 9, the Penn Museum presents a program designed for families with children with special needs. Join other local families at the Museum for an Evening Expedition—a night of sensory-friendly fun. For children ages 8 and older, teens, and young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities and their families, this program offers a hands-on look into the lives of the ancients through active, engaging, multi-sensory activities. Prost! Ardmore Oktoberfest returns Saturday, September 23rd from 2pm-8pm on Cricket Avenue. Get ready for German fare, brews, entertainment, and a brand-new VIP experience!

The Ardmore Oktoberfest VIP area will be in the outdoor space beside McCloskey’s Tavern and will feature exclusive craft beers, unlimited German fare and refreshments, and more. A limited number of VIP tickets will go on sale for $50/each on 8/18/17.

McCloskey’s Tavern, John Henry’s Pub, and Jack McShea’s are planning a menu with all the traditional favorites! Entertainment will include returning popular favorites The O’Fenders and the James D. Oompah Band
