Due diligence is important when hiring a service provider including the ones suggested in the LMCN Group and the ones listed in the LMCN Directory. Here are some suggestions to guide you through the process of checking their work history, reputation and whether they are legitimate. Ask for:
If you have a complaint about a contractor it must be put in writing. Your options are as follows:
1. Contact the State of Pennsylvania attorney general to file a complaint;
Click here to file a complaint. The Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General receives more than 50,000 complaints and referrals each year, which allows them to fight on your behalf. You can submit a complaint online or by printing out and sending a form into their office. The more information you provide, the better they can help you.A registry of complaints is kept on file.
2. Send a letter to lower Merion township;
Township Administration Building
75 East Lancaster Avenue
Ardmore, PA 19003-2323
Attn: Building and Planning Dept
All contractors who are licensed and insured have a file with Lower Merion Township and the letter will be added to the file.
You can contact the LM Township Building and Planning Dept at 610-645-6200 prior to the start of any job to inquire if there are complaints on file. However, you must go to the township in person to review a file.
3. Contact your commissioner:
If you do not know who that is. CLICK HERE to find out how to contact your commissioner.
The biggest myth in the Pennsylvania real estate industry is that you cannot save on title costs. Often, you are referred to a title agent that is affiliated with the real estate company. By using an attorney settlement agent instead, you can save anywhere from 10% to 25% in title costs. Since 2012, Rosner Settlement Services has saved clients over $60,000.00
Real life examples:
$500,000 purchase will cost you a minimum of $3,175.00 with a title agent. Rosner’s fee would be $2,381.25 for the same services.
$750,000 purchase will cost you a minimum of $4,175 with a title agent. Rosner’s fee would be $3,131.25.
If you shop around for mortgage rates and homeowners insurance – do yourself a favor and give Rosner Settlement Services a call for a quote on title. Jeff Rosner is an attorney instead of a title agent and operates under a separate system in PA which gives much more flexibility.
You will save 25% on any purchase over $500,000.00.

When I had a new roof put on my home years ago I used Hynes Home Improvement. Later they replaced the siding and added shutters to my house. Now everyone says it looks like I have a new house. One thing I was really impressed with, upon completion of both jobs, is that they sent out an employee to evaluate the work site. In all my years of dealing with contractors I had never seen this level of quality control.
I personally had a good experience working with Hynes Home Improvement on my project. I wanted share this and the fact that it is reassuring to find a company that cares. Check out the job they did on my house:

Yoga is a life changing event. I found that I personally needed to have balance in my life, and in starting my own practice many years ago, I immediately noticed the beneficial power of yoga that helped me achieve my life balance. I continued to develop my capabilities and over a couples of years I enrolled in several teacher trainings (with prominent master teachers such as Erich Schiffmann, Paul Grilley, Bernie Clarke, to name a few) in various styles, which carry over into my training in Ayurveda (Traditional Indian Medicine). After a number of years of teaching in the Philadelphia area, I decided to open my studio to reflect all of this experience into one true Yoga studio.
My vision, to blend together my many yogic training of different styles with the traditional Indian Ayurveda (translated as Science of Life) practice, allows my students to experience Yoga as it was meant to be–a treatment for strengthening and healing the mind and the body…far different than the current trend of Yoga as “fast food-like” exercise. At Katrin Elia Yoga, students work both the body and the mind, as well as, both energies of the Yin (passive) and of the Yang (active). Only this blend, worked in specific sequences, makes one feel complete and whole.
In my view, paying personal attention to each student in smaller class settings is what makes the studio so different! Katrin Elia Yoga offers group classes (mornings and evenings), One-on-One’s, Beginner’s Yoga Private Sessions (learning the ABCs of Yoga in two 90 minutes sessions), Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultations, Ayurvedic Massage, Yoga Nidra, and the Yoga Wall.
Many of you know Joan Hindin as a valued community member in Lower Merion Communty Network. She is a frequent contributor and has made many new friends through this group.
I asked Joan to tell us a little about herself and why she became a Realtor. Here’s her story;
My parents were always positive role models for me. Both were leaders in the community and taught me the value of patience, honesty, integrity, positive thinking, working hard, courage and taking responsibility for ones own success and
failure. They also taught me to never give up, how to move on, to stand up for and to help others and always do my best. Everything they taught me has helped me throughout my life and as a REALTOR too.
When I decided to integrate my life experiences, extensive business and volunteer experience into real estate, I contacted Prudential Fox and Roach, Delaware Valley’s market leader. They immediately said, “YES!” and I joined the
Haverford Station Office in Haverford.
Since August 2005, I have loved being a Realtor, listing and marketing homes, helping people sell their homes, and helping people achieve their dreams of home ownership. Prudential Fox & Roach just became Berkshire Hathaway Home
Services Fox & Roach, REALTOR’S®. I am now a part of the nation’s second largest provider of total home services and I am very excited to be a REALTOR associated with Warren Buffet! “I continue to appreciate your referrals”. Thanks.

On behalf of Carrie Koh’s of pucciManuli:
I wanted to give a quick shout out to all of you (and of course, Karen Toole-Ebbert!) I started my business (pucciManuli) a little over eight (8) years ago while I was living in NYC (I saw a huge opportunity to ditch the corporate marketing/advertising world and celebrate high-quality & artisan-made toys). Very soon after, I moved to Philadelphia and have been here ever since. And, as so many of you small business owners in this group know, I will not pretend it has always been easy (who knew running something as “simple” as this would be so much work?), but I love it, and hope that at least some of that love somehow manages to shine through…
So here’s the reason for the shout out: so many of you in this group have not only patronized my business, but extended me kindness in so many different ways. As a very small gesture of gratitude and appreciation, I wanted to extend you (exclusively to members of this LMCN group) a 15% Friends & Family discount beginning tomorrow and running through Sunday, November 10th (shameless plug: if you “like” pucciManuli on Facebook, I’ll increase your Friends & Family discount to 20%). You all are a big part of why I have found success here (as you clearly have great taste ), and I’m so appreciative. Thank you again for your kind words and support.
